FAQs Getting Married in Canberra
Do I have to use an ACT Celebrant for my ACT Wedding?
Nope. Civil Marriage Celebrants are registered under a Federal Act. There are a few specific exceptions but in this case, even though Sassy Celebrants are based in New South Wales, every single one of them can perform marriage in the ACT and Australia wide.
Where will my ACT marriage be registered?
Wherever your marriage ceremony occurs is where the marriage will be registered. Ceremonies that occur in the ACT are registered with Births, Deaths and Marriages ACT. Basically, this means if you want to apply for your registered marriage certificate (needed for name changes, proof of marriage etc) you will apply through ACT BDM.
Will I pay more for a Sassy Celebrant to travel to Canberra?
More than likely there will be a travel fee included in the quote you receive from Sassy Celebrants. Hey, if you want our type of awesome you gotta pay for the petrol.
How will it work if I’m in the ACT and my celebrant is in NSW?
It’s called the internet. We can skype/ facetime / zoom/ messenger or just good old email and phone calls to make sure your wedding is all organised and ready to go. It’s totally fine (and perfectly normal) to not meet your celebrant until the day of the wedding.
